Overcome the Obstacles Between You and Success
As a therapist and life coach, I view obstacles to success from past, present and future perspectives because success without happiness can be worse than failure.
Scientists have studied happiness for many years and concluded that happiness is a choice. It is not measured by the amount of money you have, your looks, possessions or status. It comes from within. Research shows that having children, getting married, and having money does not create a happy life. As a matter of fact, these things actually create more stress in one’s life if you’re not adequately prepared for it. However, the media and society wants us to believe that this is the true measurement of happiness.
I am a firm believer that there are truly no mistakes – only lessons and lessons are repeated until they are learned. When you pursue a perspective such as this, you are less likely to beat yourself up for your so called “failures” and more likely integrate them into ways your can learn and grow to become happier and more successful in life as a whole.
There are many differences between life coaching and therapy. Overall, life coaches hold you accountable on a more regular basis. Think about it this way, when you see a therapist once a week for an hour, a lot can transpire between the end of that hour and the beginning of the session the following week. A life coach can hold you accountable between sessions through contact via text, email and video chat. Life coaches are able to disclose as much information about themselves as they find pertinent to what the client is experiencing at the moment whereas therapists are bound more by the constraints of their therapeutic practice and often remain feelings based. Therapists often view past history as a precursor to the lack of success and happiness one has in their life today. Life coaches work with clients to identify what the here and now issue(s) is and to identify short-term, measureable, attainable, realistic and timely goals. Of course there are situations were the past has to be visited and explored in order to move forward but it is not always the case.
When all is said and done, success without happiness is the worst kind of failure. If you lose sight of your values, your life will suck. Success without happiness is often where people find themselves stuck and find themselves no longer moving forward.
